NHS Blood Pressure Check Service
The NHS has introduced a blood pressure check service to enable pharmacies to identify previously undiagnosed cases of high blood pressure.
High blood pressure
High blood pressure (hypertension) significantly increases your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Early detection and treatment can help people live longer and healthier lives.
Who is eligible for a blood pressure check?
-
Adults who are 40 years old or over who do not have a current diagnosis of high blood pressure
-
Patients under 40 who request the service due to their family history of high blood pressure can be offered the service at the pharmacist's discretion
-
Patients aged 35 to 39 who are given information about or request the service may have a blood pressure check at the pharmacist’s discretion
-
Adults highlighted by a general practitioner for blood pressure checks
What will the pharmacist do?
Our pharmacist will take several blood pressure readings.

Depending on these results, the pharmacist may provide you with advice on maintaining healthy blood pressure, offer Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring, provide advice on lowering blood pressure, issue you a referral or an urgent referral to a clinic or to a GP for investigation.
Is having my blood pressure checked free?
Yes. Our blood pressure checks are an NHS service which is entirely free of charge.
